In just its second year the Main Street Stampede has taken its place among the other downtown events that are quickly making Camp Verde the festival capital of Central Arizona. The event will feature amateur and professional riders from throughout the Southwest and a $10,000 purse, along with a downtown business expo put on by the local merchants.
Well actually it's going to be the roar of a Friday and Saturday crowd. April 15-16 will be the second annual Main Street Stampede -- Boots, Broncs and Bulls, at the Camp Verde Community Center Soccer Field.
This year's event, which is now an official stop on the "Proud American Tour," will feature both amateur and professional riders from throughout the Southwest, vying for over $10,000 in prize money.
Some of the other attractions at this year's rodeo will include Camp Verde's own Bob Weir and his rodeo clown act, along with a rodeo "Dice Game" where spectators can win cash prizes.
The rodeo events start at 7 p.m. both nights, followed by a country-western dance at the Community Center with Miramont recording artist Danny Griego
There will also be vendors and a business expo sponsored by local merchants all day Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and a Kids Rodeo on Saturday afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m.
A number of local businesses have stepped up to sponsor the events and prizes at this year's Stampede.
The event is co-sponsored by KVRD, Corral West Ranchwear, Az North, plus Bud and Pepsi.
Local companies Bashas', Osco, Rocky Construction, Rinker, Ancient Bear Gallery, Sedona-Verde Valley Realtors and the campaigns of John Reddell, Bob Kovakovich and Ron Smith will be sponsoring the chutes in the arena.
Camp Verde Feed, Ben's Trucking and Trading and United Rentals will furnish the feed and equipment for the rough stock and the arena maintenance.
And Hauser & Hauser Farm, Boler's Bar, the Camp Verde High School coaches, Stone Designs and The Camp Verde Bugle will donate the championship buckles to the winners.
Advance tickets are available from Camp Verde Feed, Bashas in Camp Verde and The Cowboy shop in Cottonwood.
