Zora E. Jarrard

Zora Esther Jarrard of Cottonwood died Aug. 18. She was 90, born on March 25, 1915 in Belmont, Mass., to Dr. Francis C. and Irene Chandler Leavitt.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Howard Earl Jarrard, in 1987; son Jeffrey Carl Jarrard and daughter Wendy Christine. She is survived by three grandchildren; a stepdaughter and two step grandsons.

When she was a small child she moved with her family to California where she was trained as a dancer in ballet, Hawaiian and Flamingo dancing. She graduated from the Lawler Professional School in Hollywood and appeared in several movies. Her husband was a vocalist and entertained the troops during his Army service during World War II.

Zora moved to Cottonwood in 1991 where she settled in Verde Village and endeared herself to all who met her. She was active in Verde Village affairs, serving in the Board of Directors, with the Swim Group and performed with the Verde Village Players. She brought her talent to two dance troupes in Cottonwood, the Classic Lassies and the Happy Hoofers. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her last days were spent at the Cottonwood Terrace Retirement Home.

A Memorial Tribute will be held on Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood.

Elvira R. Baca

Elvira R. Baca, 88, of Cottonwood, died Aug. 18. She was born April 16, 1917, in Reserve, N.M., to Louis and Maria Barreras Romero.

Mrs. Baca was a longtime resident of Flagstaff for 22 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of St. Pius Catholic Church. She loved cooking and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Baca was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Secundino Baca, and one granddaughter. She is survived by daughters Donna Lee (Vicente) Martinez, Dolores (Richard) Perea, and Petra (Bobby) Martinez; nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The Rosary will be on Sunday, Aug. 21, 6 p.m., at the Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 22, 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Cottonwood Cemetery.

Edward E. King Jr.

Edward E. King Jr. died Aug. 17 at his home in Clarkdale. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. King was born in Jerome in 1925. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Joiner King; son Edward E. King III; and his sister, Margaret Seeglitz Andrews.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Dorothy; his son, Bradley (Catherine); his daughter, Rebecca Andre (Jerry); and his brother-in-law David Andrews. His grandchildren, Edward King IV, Leisa Meyer Bell (Ben), Jason Wentz (Marla), Joanna Bowman (Darell), Thomas King and Joseph King will miss him, as will his great grandchildren, Bridget Meyer, Trevor Meyer, Symaryha Wentz, Carlie Bell, and Jameson Wentz. His niece Sherry Seegitz Costello (Mike), nephews Al Seeglitz (Jill), and Bill Seeglitz (Linda) and their extended families will also miss him.

He was a decorated World War II veteran who was stationed and wounded in the Philippines. He graduated from the University of Arizona in the first pharmacology class in 1950. He retired from Osco Drugs in 1986.
