Greenworks Plaza is throwing itself a Grand Opening Celebration, and the public is invited. The event will be held this Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to late afternoon, and will feature live music, free food, comedy and magic, and free advice from some of the Verde Valley's foremost experts on outdoor living.
The Plaza is located at 2945 Southwest Drive in West Sedona, behind the Giant gas station on Arizona 89A and just down the road from the fire station. And‹the Plaza is also now open on Arizona 89A, between the Giant and Crystal Magic. This newly-opened facility at 2970 W. Arizona 89A is reason enough to celebrate, and now provides the Plaza with a visible presence on Sedona's main thoroughfare.
Highlighting the entertainment will be magician and comedian Robert Grey, who will perform from noon to 2 p.m., and Sedona favorite Fitzhugh Jenkins and the Jazz Bedouins, a world music quartet playing from 2 to 4 p.m. They will perform ethnically rich and diverse music, featuring hypnotic Middle Eastern rhythms, Oriental melodies and vibrant Latin percussion.
The quartet includes Jenkins on guitar, Eddy Barattini on drums, Zirque Bonner on bass ‹ all award-winning musicians familiar to Sedona audiences ‹ and newcomer Brian David, a classical guitarist with great credentials. The group's ethnically-inspired music can also be enjoyed at APizza Heaven restaurant on Wednesday evenings.
Not coincidentally, APizza Heaven will provide free lunch for the celebration, from noon to 2 p.m. Other tasty treats ‹ pastries and fresh coffee ‹ will be supplied by Sedona Coffee Roasters from 8 to 10 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., presentations will be given by professional contractors who are headquartered at the Plaza. Leading off is Jim Law of Land Artworks, whose firm designs outdoor living spaces by blending sustainability and beauty. He will discuss the art of landscaping and other topics related to outdoor living.
Next comes Wes Coates of New Vision Irrigation and Permaculture, whose firm focuses on promoting green building, sustainable land, and water practices. He will talk about using and preserving water, our most precious resource. Jean Searle of Nursery Source next dispenses advice on gardening with water-saving plants.
Other experts will cover environmental issues, garden décor and eco-friendly tips on all aspects of outdoor living. The format will be informal, with groups of visitors encouraged to ask questions about their own gardening and outdoor needs.
Greenworks Plaza was conceived as a way to bridge the gap between the landscape professional and the public. Boasting local, reputable contractors as part of the team, Greenworks Plaza is truly a one-stop garden, landscape and aquascape design center.
Visitors to the newly-opened facility on Arizona 89A will find additional parking at the new headquarters of Bamboo 4-U, which offers a wide variety of bamboo, plus pots, exotic plants, and beautiful garden and indoor accents.
Those entering the Arizona 89A facility will also want to stroll up the plant-lined pathway to the original location on Southwest Drive. There they will find the original Plaza business, Nursery Source, plus several other outdoors-oriented companies that now make up this unique business community.
Many of the Greenworks Plaza companies are offering deep discounts as part of the festivities this Saturday. For more information about the June 4 Grand Opening Celebration, call 284-2600.
