Elementary School Principal Tom Lee put in his time busing tables and serving meals to help raise funds that the foundations hopes will someday be used to support student activities at the district's schools.

Featuring a host of local celebrities who donated their time as waiters, the event raised approximately $5,000.

Jackie Bessler, of Yavapai Broadcasting, served as master of ceremonies, Mid Life Crisis provided the entertainment and a crowd of about one hundred guests put up $35 a head to lend their support to creating an endowment for the district.

The foundation reported selling approximately 130 tickets.

Eighteen local businesses also contributed items to a silent auction.

Town leaders Mitch Dickinson, Tony Gioia and Bob Kovacovich, and town staff members joined the entire Camp Verde District Governing Board and a host of others in serving the participants.

There was also a considerable amount of nonsense served up, too.

Throughout the evening, the celebrity waiters competed against each other to see who could raise the most money tips. There were accusations among the group, throughout the evening, of having their tips pilfered by their fellow servers.

“It was not only profitable for the foundation, it was enjoyable for all,” District Superintendent Ron Maughan said.

Maughan hopes the event will become a yearly fund raiser for the foundation.

“I hope the enthusiasm to create an endowment grows and more people become involved over next year,” Maughan said.

The foundation needs to raise an initial $25,000 in order to join the Yavapai County Community Foundation, a consortium of charitable foundations that invest their funds collectively.

They currently have less than $10,000 in their endowment.

An endowment is an established fund of cash, securities, or other assets that provide income for the maintenance of a nonprofit organization.

The foundation is currently seeking contributions to the endowment. All contributions are tax deductible.

Once invested, the fund will provide a perpetual income to the district from the interest earned on the investments.

The foundation will working on further fundraisers and can be contacted at the Camp Verde district offices at (928) 567-8000 for any other contributions.
