Dale E. Zabel

Dale Edwin Zabel, 87, of Cottonwood, died Oct. 11, 2005. He was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Westmoreland, Kans.

He served his country during World War II in the Navy.

He was a graduate of Westmoreland High School and Kansas State University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees.

Mr. Gabel was a professor of metallurgy, metals and alloys. He retired from Magma Cooper of San Manuel, Ariz., as an engineer. He had previously worked as a quality control engineer at Boeing Aircraft.

He was a member of professional associations ASM and AAIME and was a member of the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church.

His interest included woodworking, gardening and traveling.

His wife of 62 years, Nadean Zabel, survives him. He also leaves daughters Nancy Jenson, of Chicago, and Marjorie Meyer, of Tucson; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Nov. 7 in the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m.

Donations in his memory may be made to the scholarship fund at the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church, 1500 E. Hombre Drive, Cottonwood AZ 86326.

Mary E. Gross

Mary Elizabeth Gross, 87, of Camp Verde, died Oct. 26, 2005. She was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Dover, Pa.

She graduated from Dover Area High School.

Mrs. Gross was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her husband, Julius Carl Gross, preceded her in death.

She leaves a son, Julius Michael Gross, of Camp Verde; a daughter, Julianne Ellen Gross Russell, of Hinckley, Calif.; a sister, Ellen Erb, of York, Pa.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 31, in the Westcott Funeral Home at 10 a.m.

Donations in her memory may be made to any of her favorite charities.

Richard C. Krause

Richard C. Krause, 80, of Cottonwood, died Oct. 26, 2005. He was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Sheboygen, Wis.

He was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Krause was a retired carpenter. His hobbies were fishing and camping.

His wife of 59 years preceded him in death.

He leaves two sons, Steve Krause, of Phoenix, and Richard Krause, of Glendale; and two grandchildren.

There are no public services planned.

Dorothy E. Tompkins

Dorothy Elizabeth Tompkins, 84, of Camp Verde, died Oct. 28, 2005, of acute leukemia, and she will surely be missed.

Dorothy was born on April 19, 1921, in Fountain, Colo., and was daughter to Dena and Carl Smith (both deceased) of Escondido, Calif. Dorothy was sister to Edward Smith (deceased), Lucille Crawford Evans (deceased), Cora Nell Swain of Escondido, Calif., and was married to Clinton Tompkins (deceased).

Dorothy was a graduate of Escondido High in 1939. She leaves behind her oldest daughter Erlene Wokmunskie of Lakeside, Calif.; daughter Dena Doyle of Calhoun, Tenn.; son Edward Tompkins of San Diego; and daughter Penny Cook of Camp Verde. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Dorothy was well traveled from Chula Vista, Calif., to Faribault, Minn., and finally rested in Camp Verde since 1985.
