Reverend Dr. Jack L. Peters died at his home in San Diego on Oct. 31, 2006, of congestive heart failure. He was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was a youth pastor prior to attending college at Pepperdine University and later McCormick Theological Seminary.

As one former Cottonwood parishioner wrote on behalf of his memorial services, Jack Peters was "a fully and richly human person, a man multi-gifted, spiritual, insightful, who lived with a passion for peace and justice. what you saw was what he was; cowboy boots and hat, a lover of books and scholarship, music, good food, and his horses."

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons Mark (Lisa) and David (Jan); daughter Leslie (Brad); and six grandchildren

His ashes have been scattered at sea per his wishes. In lieu of flowers or gifts please join his tradition of purchasing Christmas gifts from the Heifer Project, www.heifer.org, which aids hard-working people to escape hunger and poverty.
