Steven R. Barreras 1955 - 2007
Steven Ray Barreras, 51, of Dewey, died July 25, 2007. He was born Nov. 26, 1955, in Riverside, Calif., to Ray and Mona Barreras.
His late father helped coach Steve's Pop Warner Football team while living in Southern California before moving to the Verde Valley in 1969.
Steve graduated from Mingus Union High School in 1973 after playing center on the football team for four years. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving three and a half years, and was assigned to the USS Lynde McCormic, a guided-missile destroyer. His tour of duty took him to many places in the Orient, and he was stationed in the Philippines for a year.
After leaving the Navy, Steve worked construction for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his mother Mona Barreras of Crescent City, Calif.; two sisters, Kim Barreras of Cottonwood and Anita Barreras of Camp Verde; two brothers, Mike Barreras of Crescent City, Calif., and Mark Barreras of Oregon; his companion Christa Walker of Dewey; and one son, Christopher, of California.
Private services were held.
