Celebrating 100 Years!
On Dec. 30, Laura Ellen Rowland will celebrate her 100th birthday. Laura is a longtime resident of the Verde Valley. She and her husband, O.H. "Shorty" Rowland moved here from Flagstaff where they had their home and raised a family of three girls and one son. In Flagstaff, they settled on a farm in Doney Park in 1927 after migrating from West Texas and Oklahoma. Laura was born and raised on the big cattle ranches in West Texas where her father was a foreman and also had his own herds of cattle and horses. At different times over the years, they farmed as much as 200 acres of land raising pinto beans and wheat, among other row crops. Her son Billy and his wife, Hazel, live in Clarkdale. Her daughter Ellen June Vojnic and her husband Jerry live in Jerome and Laura currently lives with her daughter LeEtta and her husband Montie Slaughter in Verde Village. Laura's family members will be coming from all over the country for this celebration.
