Camp Verde boys basketball
The Camp Verde boys basketball will be hosting the first round of the 2A North regional tournament on Wednesday after two big wins over Rough Rock and Red Mesa.
The Cowboys pulled out a squeaker against Rough Rock on Thursday, beating them 68-64. Despite the outcome, it was Rough Rock that came out blazing in the first quarter, outscoring the Cowboys 22-10. But the Cowboys didn't give up and fought back to within six at halftime, down 34-28.
Once Camp Verde's legs got warmed up, the Cowboys capitalized and took the lead in the third quarter by outscoring Rough Rock 19-11. Camp Verde kept up the momentum and stayed ahead of the home team by outscoring them 21-19 in the fourth for the win.
Back to back road games, especially a five hour drive one way can take a toll on any team. But the Cowboys showed why they are one of the best teams in the region as they beat Red Mesa Friday night, 61-60.
The game was close the whole way with Jordan Lewis leading the team with 22 points.
The playoff schedule is still up in the air, but one thing is for sure, the Cowboys will be playing at home on Wednesday in the first round of the region tournament along with the girls basketball team. Girls will play at 5:30 and the boys will play at 7 p.m.
