Camp Verde girls basketball
The Camp Verde girls basketball team continues to dominate their opponents. On Thursday the Cowboys beat Rough Rock, 69-24 and Friday the Cowboys defeated Red Mesa 48-39. The most impressive stat is that they beat them both while traveling long distances to get there.
The long drive didn't seem to affect the Cowboys as they jumped ahead of Rough Rock 25-4 in the first quarter. They continued to dominate the first half as the Cowboys extended their lead to go into halftime with a huge 45-10 lead.
Rough Rock showed some life in the third by outscoring the Cowboys, 14-10, but then Camp Verde came back and blanked the home team, 14-0 for the win.
On Friday the Cowboys traveled to Red Mesa. After the long road trip on Thursday, the Cowboys weren't at their playing peak in the first quarter, trailing 15-5. But as their legs warmed up, so did their half of the scoreboard as the Cowboys outscored the home team 16-9 to go into halftime trailing 24-21.
All warmed up and hitting their shots, the Cowboys picked apart Red Mesa, outscoring them 14-8 in the third and then capping off the game with a 13-7 fourth quarter for the win.
The Cowboys will host the first round of the 2A North regional tournament on Wednesday along with the boys team. The girls will play at 5:30 and the boys will play at 7 p.m.
