Jack R. Jewell

Jack R. Jewell, 90, of Cottonwood, Arizona, Nov. 22, 2006. Jack was born on Dec. 26, 1915, to John T. and Mary "Essie" (Armstrong) Jewell in Bisbee.

He was a graduate of Long Beach High School, and then received his bachelor's degree in plumbing from the Community College. This was the profession to which he dedicated 60 years of his life. He retired teaching plumbing at the California Youth Authority.

Jack was elected the 1976 exalted ruler for the Elks Lodge in Clarkdale. He and his wife Mabel, who preceded him in death, loved to travel, and when he was home he enjoyed fishing, gardening, football and the horse races.

He leaves behind his son, Richard J. Jewell (Barbara) of Cottonwood; two daughters, Jessie L. Joy (David) of Cottonwood, and Susan A. Hyatt (Johnny) of California; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy G. Havlicsek

Dorothy G. Havlicsek, 82, a 20-year resident of Cottonwood, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006. She was born March 24, 1924, in Turtle Creek, Pa., a daughter of the late Wallace C. and Ethel A. Lutton, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois J. Sims.

Dorothy was a former member of Verde Valley Christian Church. She had recently moved with family in Maryland because of health concerns.

She is survived by two children, Dr. Bruce L. (Susan) Havlicsek, of Reisterstown, Md., Gayle A. (Mark) Brooks, of Linthicum, Md., five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a sister, Norma C. Fowkes, of North Huntingdon, Pa.

A funeral service was Dec. 28 at the William Snyder Funeral Home in Irwin, Pa., with the Pastors Claude and Sandy Sisler officiating. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles, Pa.

The family requests that instead of flowers, that contributions in her memory be made to: Verde Valley Christian Church, 3605 Zalesky Road, Cottonwood AZ 86326

Alexander M. Havlicsek

Alexander M. Havlicsek, 83, a 20-year resident of Cottonwood, died Jan. 8, 2007. He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in East Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Sophia Havlicsek.

For 61 years he was married to Dorothy G. Havlicsek, who died just 17 days earlier on Dec. 22, 2006.

Alex was a former member of Verde Valley Christian Church. He retired as a senior design draftsman after 34 years at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh and Baltimore. He was an avid hiker, having traversed the Grand Canyon several times. He had recently moved with family in Maryland because of health concerns.

He is survived by two children, Dr. Bruce L. (Susan) Havlicsek, of Reisterstown, Md., Gayle A. (Mark) Brooks, of Linthicum, Md., five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and brother, Joseph Havlicsek of Long Beach, Ca.

A memorial service will be today, Jan. 12 at The Norwin Church of the Nazarene, 110 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, Pa. with Pastors Claude and Sandy Sisler officiating. Interment follows at Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles.
