William E. (Bill) Bert 1919 - 2007
William E. (Bill) Bert, 88, died June 28, in Cottonwood after a brief illness. He was born in Monroe, Mich., on June 14, 1919, to John and Ella Bert.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Catherine (Merkle) Bert, and brothers Loren, Raymond and Robert Bert.
His is survived by his sister June Reaume (Mich.) and his children Joyce (Ron) Manes, Richard (Sheila) Bert, Carolyn (Danny) Cole, June (Billy) Bridge, Sally Bert, Jerry Bert, Jack Bert and James (Sandi) Bert. He had 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. During the war, he was an MP and rode the troop trains throughout the Southwest, which prompted him to move his family from Monroe to Flagstaff, where they resided until 1973, when they moved to Cottonwood.
He was a longtime member of Carpenters Local 1100, which is now Local 408. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until his body told him to quit. He continued to enjoy reading and collecting old duck decoys.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday July 7, at 10 a.m.
