Dog's Best Friend
Mobile canine grooming business hits Verde Valley streets
Cindi Baltz has always had a dog and, growing up, has always like working with them. Now, she has chosen to commit full time to the care and hygiene of Verde Valley's furry friends.
Cruisin Clippers Mobile Pet Spa is unlike other grooming businesses in the area -- it is in deed cruisin.
Working out of a specially designed, fully-equipped trailer, Baltz comes to the client, eliminating the need to round up Lassie, put away the car's portable XM Radio cords she's likely to get tangled up in and drive to the shop while she slobbers on the newly cleaned interior.
"Our service has significant appeal for those whose life makes it difficult to arrange all the details and time to take a pet into a fixed retail site to be groomed," Baltz said. "Think of having your pet groomed right on your own property or where you work."
An Arizona native, who came to the Verde Valley as a child from Mesa in 1983, Baltz has clocked 10 years in the grooming business. She established good relationships with fellow grooming professionals Darby Parson, owner of 3 Dog Nite, and Canine Country Club former owner Judy Owens while working under them for the past century.
She appreciates the knowledge and skills learned while working with Parson and Owens and said proudly she would "still be an employee" if she had not decided to make the push for business ownership.
"I've stayed [in the Verde Valley] because I like the relaxed family environment," Baltz said. "However, I've also seen the business opportunity grow and felt that there was finally enough need and volume for a mobile grooming service. So, I decided to go for it."
Baltz stresses the importance of being knowledgeable and sincere about caring for dogs and abides by high standards of customer satisfaction -- which is crucial in an unregulated grooming world.
"Let's consider a startling fact," Baltz said. "No government agency regulates or licenses pet groomers. That means you need to be sure that whomever you do business with is qualified and trustworthy."
Cruisin Clippers is a licensed, certified and insured business.
Baltz acknowledges that with personalized, professional and convenient grooming care comes a slight increase in fees, but believes it is worth it.
"It is true that you may pay a 20 percent premium over a fixed-site price," she said. "But you save on not having to provide roundtrip transportation and on the time you waste waiting for your pet to be ready."Baltz touts other advantages such as one-on-one attention, which means there will not be other dogs around to endanger client's pets. No caging is necessary. Also, familiar surroundings make the process less hectic for the dog owner and less traumatic for the dog.
Services include bathing, clipping, special dips, ear cleaning, nail trim, dematting, oral care and anal gland expression. Limited pet sitting services are also available.
Cruisin Clippers services the entire Verde Valley and Sedona area, including Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Verde Village, Cornville, Camp Verde, Rimrock, McGuireville, Sedona, and Village of Oak Creek.
