Zoomers Bike and Gear opens in Cottonwood
Owners cite need for centrally-located, professional shop
After becoming frustrated with the lack of a local, professional bike store in Cottonwood or areas closer than the Village of Oak Creek, Todd and Teressa Lang decided to open their own store, Zoomers Bike and Gear.
"Traveling to the shops in VOC is a big time commitment, especially when it takes a drop off and a pick up trip," said Todd. "We chose our location in central Cottonwood because it is easier for most of the Verde Valley to visit."
Todd is utilizing his knowledge of small business operation and cycling experience to move along the new LLC. The staff at Zoomers is experienced as well, and Todd is focussed on making the sale as easy for the customer as possible.
"Zoomers is dedicated to providing quality, friendly service for novices and women as well as inexperienced cyclists," said Todd. "We refuse to create a place that intimidates beginners or makes you speak in special terms to be understood."
Todd started riding in 1999, a year before he finished medical school. A friend took him out and coached him along He was sold. Todd met Teressa and got her riding.
Available at the store are bicycle lines including Trek Bicycles, Gary Fisher, Cannondale and KHS. Special orders are available.
"I like to emphasize that we are a family shop," Teressa said. "We have bikes for everyone, including a full line for kids."
Also available at the store are accessories, fitness products such as sports nutrition, apparel, swimming accessories and repairs. An interesting additional service offered is the company's Web site at www.zoomersbike.com.
"We extend our presence into your home via a quality Web site with useful information, ride times, weather, and product information," said Todd. "We are committed to being an electronically savvy business from the start. This includes maintaining and using an email list, web-based ordering, and using POS software and accounting."
Todd and Teressa also plant to either form or sponsor a racing team in the next 12 months.
Todd and Teressa have a notable passion for riding and want to pass that on to future riders.
"We are committed to helping strengthen and continue the mission of the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition." Todd said. "It is nonsensical to live in a place with as much sun as this and have meager bike access, especially as the cost of living and gas prices rise."
