Camp Verde boys soccer on a roll with a 4-0 win
The Cowboys improved their conference record to 2-1 after a decisive 4-0 win over Northland Prep Wednesday afternoon.
The Camp Verde boys soccer team took control of the game early on, scoring three goals in the first half. The first goal came off of the foot of Lorenzo Reyes, who found the back of the goal with a high kick from about 30-yards out to the top of the goal.
Up 1-0, the Cowboys scored about five minutes later. This time it was a score by Mike Wales, who headed in a crossing shot from a corner kick. The head-tap, put the Cowboys up 2-0.
Wales also scored the Cowboys' third goal of the game, and the last one in the second half when he faked-out the goalie and shot the ball past him to put it away.
Coach Dave Miller decided not to press the game any more than he needed to and began pulling out his starters and giving his bench players some more time on the field. The secondary played well, keeping Northland Prep from scoring throughout the rest of the game.
With a mixture of bench players and starters, the Cowboys scored their final goal in the second half off of the foot of Joel Presmyk.
"The team is coming together," said coach Miller. "We have gotten past injuries and eligibility and we will progress into a sharper team in the next couple of weeks."
Overall the Cowboys are 6-3. Their next test will be against Grand Canyon on Saturday at home. The game will start at 4 p.m. The game's time and place had been changed from the original schedule.
