MUHS '09 budget lower than last year's
The Mingus Union High School District budget for fiscal year 2009 is lower than last year's budget. The total budget will be $8,383,097 compared with $8,665,954 for last year.
Maintenance and operation also is down for the district. The current M&O budget is $7,086,661. That's down 2.2 percent from last year's $7,247,263. Revenue for the district is budgeted at $7,658,036 FY 09, down from $7,859,264 for FY 08.
The bottom line on property taxes for district homeowners is that the primary rate dropped 2.5 percent from last year's 1.4820 to this year's 1.4443. The secondary tax levy drops from 0.5143 for 08 to 0.4275, a decrease of 16.9 percent.
The primary rate dropped because of an increase in the assessed valuation of 2.2 percent. An increase of 26 percent in the district's secondary assessed valuation allowed a decrease in that levy.
School district property taxes on a home valued at $200,000 will be $374.36, a drop of $24.90 from $399.26 for last year.
District salaries also will be lower for this school year. Salaries are budgeted for FY 09 at $4,170,619, a drop of 5.9 percent from the budgeted amount of $4,430,628 for FY 08. Benefits drop this year from $1,624,656 in FY 08 to $1,556,298 for 09, a decrease of 4.2 percent.
Kirk Waddle, district business manager, said the new budget has no salary increases for administration.
