Marie Page Wroot

Marie Page Wroot

Marie Page Wroot, long-time resident of Sedona and daughter of one of Arizona's pioneer families, died Jan. 25, 2008, in her home in Sedona.

She was born in Jerome on Aug. 17, 1925, to James Edgar Page Jr. and Fay Marie Page. She grew up on the family ranch in Page Springs. She graduated from the eighth grade in 1939 at the Cornville School - now known as Oak Creek School - and went on to graduate from high school in Clarkdale in 1943. She continued her education, graduating as a Registered Nurse from Saint Joseph's teaching hospital in Phoenix.

Marie married Wallace K. Wroot of Corona, Calif., on March 30, 1947. Wallace was in the Air Force, so as an officer's wife, Marie traveled and lived in many places. They were married 47 years until his passing in Sedona in 1993.

Marie worked as a volunteer for the Sedona Humane Society for many years. She was also very involved during the formative years of the Sedona Humane Society and the Paw Prints Thrift Store that benefits the Humane Society.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele McKinstry; three grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Steele and Julie Page Shipp; her brothers Sydney Birch and Jack Page.

A Memorial Service will be at Westcott Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m.
