Mingus girls hoops begin playoff schedule this week
Marauders take on Sinagua at home
They have had the toughest schedule this season out of any conference and any region. The Mingus Union Girls basketball team has a record of 9-19 as they headed into the first round of the region tournament on Tuesday.
The No. 4 team in the Grand Canyon Region Marauders faced Sinagua at home Tuesday night. A win sends the Marauders to Page on Thursday while a loss gets them ready for the first round of State on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
The Marauders wrapped up the regular season schedule with a win over Bradshaw Mountain Friday night.
The two times Mingus has faced Sinagua, each team got a win on their own court, which Coach Will Rider would hope that would work toward their advantage, taking on Sinagua at home.
Currently the Marauders are ranked No. 7 in the power rankings, which would give them a first round game at home for the State Tournament. The Rankings aren't final though. There are still a couple of teams that have yet to finish their regular season, so the Marauders could finish as low as No. 9 or No. 10, sending them on the road for a first round game. Either way, coach Rider won't know until Friday or so where his team lands in the rankings.
