Cottonwood, Camp Verde sales tax collections up
Sales tax totals and sales tax on construction were bright spots in May for Cottonwood and Camp Verde. Both were the only Verde Valley communities to show gains in these categories over May 2007.
All communities in the Valley were down in retail sales tax collections for May 2008 compared with May 2007.
Cottonwood collected $138,483 in sales tax from construction for May, a gain of $87,089 over the $51,394 collected in that category for May 2007. That helped Cottonwood show total sales tax collected for May at $865,273 compared with $815,266 for May 2007.
Cottonwood's retail sales tax collections for May dropped from 2007's $538,363 to $506,792 for May 2008.
Camp Verde also gained in construction sales tax from $20,946 in May 2007 to $31,807 for May 2008, an increase of $10,861. The town showed a gain in total sales tax collections from $202,232 in May 2007 to $212,407 for May 2008. Retail sales tax revenue dropped from $87,537 for May of last year to $75,435 for May 2008.
Clarkdale, Jerome and Sedona all showed declines for May 2008 from May 2007 in total sales tax, retail sales tax and construction sales tax.
Clarkdale collected $2,553 in retail sales tax for this May, a drop from $5,213 in May 2007. Total sales tax collections also showed a decline from 07's $65,692 to '08's $63,199 for May.
Collections in the May retail sales tax category for Jerome dropped from $24,504 in '07 to $21,432 in '08. The total sales tax category also dropped for May from $56,769 in 07 to $49,442 in 08.
Sedona also saw a drop in retail and total sales tax revenues for May. Retail tax dropped from '07's $363,996 to '08's $331,121. Total revenue from all categories of sales tax in May dropped from $1,452,116 in 2007 to $1,345,307 in 2008.
