With Mingus Union High School's 3rd consecutive 4A II State Wrestling Championship title won this year - it seems that the Marauder coach would get some recognition for his leadership and efforts.
Well, Coach Tom Wokasch not only got some recognition, but he was honored as this year's Coach of the Year for all of Arizona in all divisions and Coach of the Year in the 4A II conference.
This year's honors come at a time when he, his assistant coaches and athletes' work has fruition into a powerhouse wrestling program, not only in the 4A II division, but throughout the State.
"It is a great honor because your fellow coaches are the people honoring the program not me. I can't be awarded these honors without having exceptionally hard working athletes and supportive parents that are willing to strive to be the best. These kids are not afraid of competition. They will travel all over the country to compete against the best without any excuses for their defeats or successes. I am very privileged to be able to coach such wonderful, hardworking and respectful athletes. I thank the parents in the Mingus wrestling program from the elementary, Jr. High and high school program for raising great sons. A coach/teacher is nothing without willing pupils. This community has been very receptive to supporting the Mingus wrestling program from the administrators, board members and teachers of the each school district to the businesses of Cottonwood and surrounding areas. I am still amazed by the great support of everyone in Cottonwood. This honor as All-AZ COY is an award our whole community has been apart of in one way or another. I would like to thank the whole community for everything they do to support the Mingus wrestling program," said coach Wokasch.
