Charity events to benefit Boys & Girls Club
Golf, horseshoe tournament set for May 31
Zoomer's Sports Grill is sponsoring a golf and horseshoe tournament May 31 to raise money for the Cottonwood branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona.
"All the proceeds, everything, will go to Cottonwood specifically," Emily Mead, director, said.
She said the money will be used for scholarships and equipment for the kids to play with.
Todd Bale, executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona, said he hopes the event will raise more than $14,000.
"We use it almost exclusively to offset the scholarships we give out," Bale said.
He explained that the Cottonwood club gives 75 percent membership scholarships to most of the families the organization serves.
A dinner provided by Zoomer's Sports Grill will follow the tournaments.
Paid contestants in both the golf and horseshoe tournaments get fed with their entry fees.
Others, who want the dinner but don't take part in the tournaments, will pay $25 for one of the entrees, such as a rib eye dinner, served at Zoomer's between 2-7 p.m.
The golf tournament cost $80 per entrant. It begins at 8 a.m. with registration at Beaver Creek Golf Course at 4105 E. Lakeshore Drive in Rimrock.
Tee-off will be at 9 a.m. After the tournament, a raffle will offer three participants a chance to putt for $10,000.
Half of that goes to the successful putter and half to the Cottonwood Boys & Girls Club.
Registration for the horseshoe tournament will be at 8 a.m. at Riverfront Park in Cottonwood.
The tournament costs $40 per entrant and will begin at 9 a.m.
The awards ceremony will be held after the tournaments at Zoomer's.
Tickets may be purchased at Zoomer's Sports Grill at 1100 S. Hwy 260, # 21, or by calling the grill at 928-634-3966. Tickets also are available at area Boys & Girls Clubs. For information, call 928-282-0122.
