Rotary Club awards $38,000 in scholarships

The Rotary Club of the Verde Valley awarded 10 academic scholarships and three vocational scholarships this year with a total value of $38,000. Four academic scholarships were awarded to Camp Verde High School graduates: Lynette Escoffier, Sherry Dutton, Rainey Walker and Ashley Petefish, and one vocational scholarship was awarded to Maggie Monroe.

Mingus Union High School academic scholarship recipients include: Paige Wyles, Benjamin Stevenson, Justin Schultz, Timothy Kessel, Trevor Jones, and Amelia George. The vocational scholarship recipients include William Murray and Joseph Loehr.

Every year for the past 17 years the Verde Valley Rotary Club has awarded cash scholarships to graduates of the two high schools totaling more than $150,000.

They are honored to present these scholarships to these deserving, local high school seniors. Community service and school involvement as it relates to service are considerations during the selection process, as well as specific academic qualifications.

Funds for the scholarships are received from bequests and various club fundraising activities such as the annual Rubber Duck Race held during Verde River Days at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in September each year.

Other youth related programs include the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Student Ambassadors Program, Youth Exchange, and Interact Clubs at Camp Verde and Mingus Union High Schools.

The Verde Valley Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at Murphy's Grill in Cottonwood. Further information is available at our website:
