VVMC provides health service centers throughout Sedona/Verde Valley
In addition to the full-service hospital in Cottonwood, Verde Valley Medical Center offers services in a number of other locations throughout the Verde Valley.
Sedona Campus Cancer Center
The Cancer Center at the Sedona Campus provides radiation and medical oncology services with board certified oncologists who utilize some of the most current technologies and equipment for treating cancer patients. Support programs are offered to patients and families, including van transportation service to and from treatments.
The Sedona Campus Cancer Center uses Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), one of the most precise forms of radiation therapy currently available. IMRT has been called the most significant breakthrough in radiation treatments in the past 30 years, and can treat difficult-to-treat tumors found in the spine, head, neck, prostate, liver and brain. IMRT also is useful toward successfully retreating areas that have had previous conventional radiation therapy.
Portal vision imaging (PVI) allows radiation therapists and physicians to better treat cancer patients than they could when using standard radiology film. When treating cancerous tumors, physicians attempt to maximize radiation treatment while minimizing exposure to surrounding tissues. In order to ensure they best target the tumor, imaging is used.
Previously, patients had to wait long periods of time for standard film images to develop, and a radiation therapist and physician had to evaluate the images for proper treatment positioning. The ability to digitally capture a patient's setup and adjust as necessary before each treatment is a critical component toward ensuring accurate outcomes. Now, images are evaluated within seconds, and because the digital images are much clearer than traditional film, they allow for more targeted treatments. Thanks to PVI, patients are better positioned for each treatment, as finer targeting makes it easier to more aggressively radiate tumors.
The VVMC Sedona Campus maintains a 24-hour Emergency department operated by Verde Valley Medical Center. Under the supervision of Medical Director Vince Furry, M.D., the Sedona campus Emergency department is staffed with board certified physicians and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified nursing staff. Through cooperation with the Sedona Fire Department, Guardian Air and other emergency services, EMS personnel provide in-field EKG transmitting and interfacility transport of cardiac patients, among other lifesaving procedures.
VVMC-Sedona Campus maintains a fully licensed lab that offers service to the Emergency department and provides full-service laboratory testing to the community, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Medical Imaging department provides X-rays, mammograms, CT scans and EKGs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with a physician order. Medical Imaging services are provided 24 hours a day for patients of the Emergency department. The Radiology Reading Room at VVMC Sedona Campus has a CT viewing station connected to the EMed Teleradiology system which allows CT films taken at VVMC to be viewed in the Sedona Campus Reading Room and vice versa.
