Letter: A company that remembers customer service

I would like to send an open letter of thanks to a company that performs a service in this Verde Valley.

In this day and age where almost everyone has forgotten what the term "customer service" means, it is refreshing to find a company that remembers.

Patriot Disposal, Inc is one such company. OK, I know, they are from "the other side of the mountain." However, this company embodies everything good in the term "customer service."

Today, just after I got out of bed, I heard the trash truck pull up. Just like every week, I peeked out the window to watch, as machinery can still fascinate me. To my shock, I saw that my can was not out by the street. So, I rushed to put on enough clothing to run out the door, hoping that the driver would be patient enough for me to get out there. Just as I was pulling my shirt on, and running out the door, I found that the driver, a nice young man who's name I discovered was Gavino, had pulled the dumpster out to his truck. After he emptied it, he came back out of his truck, and I was able to thank him. I only wish I had possessed a few dollars to give him. A handshake and a thank you would have to do for the moment.

I have lived in the Verde Valley for three years, and I have watched as three or more companies picked up trash from the residents on my street. I have never seen another company's drivers do this. I see them pull up, and honk, but then pull away.

Here is the great part of this story. I have been using Patriot Disposal since April of '08. This is now the secondd time this has happened. I don't know if it is a company policy or not.

I am in no way advocating being lazy, or forgetful, and letting the drivers take my trash out. But it is very comforting to know that on the (hopefully) rare occasion that this happens, these guys can and will help me out.

A tip of my hat to my regular driver David, who did it the first time, and Gavino, who did it this time. And a huge tip of my hat and hearty thank you to a company that still remembers what customer service is.
