Sedona Village Business Association works to become defining force in community

The Sedona Village Business Association continues to grow in both membership and relevance in the community, and the momentum the organization has now is most encouraging.

On the heels of the stunning success of the first SVBA Mixer at the Hilton, the SVBA hosted the Sedona Chamber of Commerce Monthly Mixer in La Plaza on Thursday, March 26.

Despite the unseasonably cool weather, the event was well attended and continues to receive positive reviews both here and in the City of Sedona.

The Full Moon Walk, held April 4, and sponsored by the Sedona Village Main Street Revitalization Committee (a sub-committee of the SVBA), was also a great success. Each event seems to build on the positive momentum of the previous events and provides encouraging signs for future events in our community. It's great to see so many residents joining the business community and working together to revitalize an area that has had more than it's share of challenges in the last year. It's also great to see visitors getting such a positive impression of our community as they explore and enjoy the Main Street Corridor.

In May, the regular monthly SVBA meeting (normally held on the first Wednesday of each month), will be combined with the Annual SVBA meeting, which is scheduled to be held on the first Tuesday of May. So instead of meeting at Sedona Winds on Wednesday, May 6th, the SVBA will hold its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 5th. The meeting will be at the Hilton, in the Tequa Ballroom (where the SVBA Annual Mixer was held in March) and will include a vote on the new Board of Directors. The Annual Meeting will begin at 4:30 PM and will be directly followed by a brief meeting of the new Board of Directors.

SVBA Members of record as of April 21, 2009 will be eligible to vote for the Board of Directors on May 5, 2009. Members of record must have submitted a completed membership application, as well as the annual dues of $50, by 4:00 PM Tuesday, April 21, 2009. New members are always welcome and membership applications may be obtained from any current member or printed from the SVBA website (www.SVBA.net). There will also be a membership table at the SVBA Annual Meeting on May 5th. The SVBA is open to all interested parties. Whether you're already a member, would like to join, or are just interested in attending a meeting to satisfy your curiosity, we look forward to seeing you.

The volunteers and participating businesses that make these events so successful are to be commended for their contributions to the community; it is certainly appreciated by the growing numbers in attendance. It is also refreshing to see so many new faces for each event and meeting.

The SVBA and by extension, its sub-committees and related organizations, are happy to welcome all participants and members, not just from the business community, but the greater community as well.

Information about the SVBA itself, as well as the nominations for the Board of Directors to be voted on at the Annual Meeting, can be found on the SVBA website.

The website also contains information and links to other community organizations, including the Sedona Village Main Street Revitalization Committee, All-American Road Committee and the Big Park Coordinating Council.

For anyone interested in participating and seeking more information about any of the various organizations functioning in the community, the SVBA website is a great place to start.

As our business and residential communities are often one in the same, everyone benefits from increased participation by all. In addition to more businesses participating, many residents interested in getting involved and interacting are joining as associate members.

If you have an interest in attending a meeting or event and learning more about the various organizations, please visit www.SVBA.net for more information.

Thank you all for your time and interest and we hope to see you soon.
