Jean Mattern Myers 1927 - 2009
Long time Clarkdale resident Jean Mattern Myers, 82, died peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 23 Jan., following a long period of poor health.
Jean was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was raised in Sewickley, a small town on the Ohio River. She and her family moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1948, where she graduated from SDSU in 1949.
Jean and her husband Madison were married in 1956. They had met while both worked at a sport fishing company in San Diego, she as office manager, he as boat captain.
Jean and her husband moved to Clarkdale in 1987 after he retired. Shortly after arriving, she volunteered at the Verde Valley Medical Center, working as a Pink Lady, then later in the gift shop.
She received the Unsung Hero Award for her 20 years of volunteering at the Cottonwood Public Library.
She is survived by her husband, Madison, her daughters Laura Hall and Sharon Todd, and grandchildren Kelsey and Allison Hall and Spencer and Lauren Todd. She had requested to have no funeral service.
