Pecan, Wine & Antique Festival
Camp Verde event runs Friday thru Sunday
Wine, pecans and antiques -- all three have been around the Verde Valley for more than 100 years.
But not until about eight years ago did someone get the idea to put them all together under the same roof and celebrate their storied past.
Today we have the Pecan, Wine & Antique Festival in Camp Verde, an event that is going regional after reaching out to like-minded individuals throughout the valley.
Faced with extinction due to budget cuts, the event was raised from the dead just a month ago when folks from the business community and the Verde Valley Wine Consortium convinced the powers that be to underwrite the event.
And with all the outside support this year's festival may be the biggest and best yet.
The festival runs Friday, Feb. 13 (noon to 6 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 14 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday Feb. 15 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Along with the 25 tables of antique exhibitors, the festival will include several non-antique businesses from the area and, of course, the Verde Valley wineries.
This year the participants include Alcantara, Freitas, Page Springs, Javalina Leap, Jerome and Oak Creek wineries.
Admission is $8 for non-drinkers or $12 per person that includes a glass and six wine tasting tickets.
This entertainment will be provided by local cowboy singer Will Adams, the eclectic sounds of The Salt Miners and the jazz rhythms of the Sammy Davis Band.
