Benefit for Chef Omar Fray - A Call for Help
A benefit for local Clarkdale resident, Omar Fray, is being organized to help raise money to help him and his family while he battles leukemia.
Omar has been the Chef de Cuisine at the Verde Valley Wine Company's Recovery Room Restaurant. On Nov. 18, 2008 Omar was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Omar is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Although his medical expenses are mostly being met, he is unable to work and day-to-day living expenses have not stopped. A benefit is being organized to generate financial help.
The party is scheduled for April 4, 2009 at Paul & Jerry's Saloon in Jerome, Arizona and will start at 2 p.m..
This is a call for musicians and performers who would like to donate some of their time to provide entertainment for the event. At the time of this writing, local performers Michael Steele, Noel Fray, Kim Talbot and Mark Ruby have offered their services. More performers are welcome to appear.
Local merchants and artists are also participating by donating items to be offered in raffles and/or silent auctions. To date, donations have been offered by Patrick Lincoln, Nancy Norman, Alison Rouske, M.L. Lincoln, Richard Johnson, Downhill Clay Company, Made In Jerome Pottery, Jane Moore, Margaret Sweet and PhotoFlashbacks.
Omar Fray is a 33-year-old native Arizonan. He was born on Camelback Mountain and raised in the Verde Valley. He is a graduate of Mingus Union High School and now resides in Clarkdale. He and his Lady, Sashea, are expecting their first child in late April of this year.
