Wood stove fire in mobile home displaces young family
Verde Valley Fire crews were called to a reported residential fire at a single-wide mobile home in Lower Oak Creek Estates. Acting Capt. Seth Murphy reported light smoke from the chimney and eaves of the single-wide mobile on Kadamoto Drive.
The occupant of the mobile had started a fire in the wood stove, and shortly afterward, noticed smoke and the structure's smoke alarms sounded. The owner, who lives nearby, was called and tried to extinguish hot spots with a garden hose.
Capt. Murphy identified smoke around the wood stove pipe with charring extension into the eaves. Crews covered furniture with salvage tarps, and extinguished signs of fire while pulling-out the ceiling around the wood stove to make sure all the fire is out. Most damage occurred in the living room of the mobile home.
A Trauma Intervention volunteer was called to help make arrangements for the family of three, including a baby, who were displaced by the fire.
