"LOCAL CONTROL" FOMENTS HATRED OF U.S.
The Az Republic editorial says that Tom Horne is wrong to seek legislation designed to discourage the Tucson school district's "Raza" studie." They admit that the "studies" are "designed to turn students bitter and hostile toward their own country." In defense of "local control", which I believe in, the paper says "it must mean that districts are allowed to choose electives, subject to the approval of the district's parents and other voters." It must mean that districts can allow the hiring of "educators" based primarily on their "extreme leftist political views." The paper also says that it means allowing the district to charge any teacher with racism who disagrees with the studies format.
The name, "Raza Studies", sounds rather benign. They are anything but benign. They don't simply teach pride in one's own ethnicity. They are meant to indoctrinate and brainwash young minds (currently just high schoolers, but the intent at TUSD is to move them down into middle school) to hate their country and to advance "..the most radical, neo-Marxist notions of anti-free-market revolution to be found in any education-theory textbooks
Perhaps the editorial is right. The bill Horne backs would withhold 10 percent of the state funds provided to TUSD if they continue the studies, which is a $2 million program. Those funds are taken from all of us, not just Tucson residents. I agree that they should be left to control their own ciriculum, at least that which is not already controlled by the federal government. However, let's let them come up with their own $2 million. I see no reason that the rest of us should provide the knife to be used to stab us in the back.
