Library grows as an asset for Village residents

It is wonderful to be successful! Did you know that we have increased our patron flow thru the library by over 50 percent from last year?

If we keep up this increase we could have our own branch in a relatively short while. Of course we have to find a source of funding for things like space, utilities, staff, books and internet costs, then be sure that it will continue to be available for succeeding years.

We can continue in our present space for a while but it will be a little longer wait for staff to get to you and we really can not add many more shelves to hold the books coming in.

Three internet computers for the public and space for three WIFI computers has squeezed us together pretty closely. We still have our Children's Corner with over five hundred books that may be checked out on the honor system.

The younger children love to sit in the small chairs and look at the pictures and then choose a book (or five) to carry home. We like to encourage all future users of the library. If you would like to help raise these funds do call Carolyn Fisher at 928-284-4638 and volunteer.

The series of talks at Sedona Winds have proven to be very popular. The recent one on Lincoln was well attended and the up coming one on April 8 at 1:30 should be very interesting. It was written in 1903 and was one of the first books to capture the beauty of the Southwest.

Do join us in a book discussion of "The Land of Little Rain" by Mary Austin. There are still a few copies here in the village to be checked out. In May we will have an in-character program by Judy Nolte Temple who will portray Mary Austin. Do try to attend both of these programs to learn more about the history of Arizona.

There is a new brochure out that lists many of the opportunities for people to volunteer at the library -- both the one in Sedona and the Village, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees and with the Friends of the Library.

If you are looking for a volunteer job you couldn't find a better place to be. All sorts of talents are needed and appreciated.

Come and see us and let us inform you of these many opportunities.
