Benefit for Chef Omar Fray - a call for help
A benefit for local Clarkdale resident, Omar Fray, is Saturday, April 4, to raise money to help him and his family while he battles leukemia.
Omar Fray is a 33-year-old native Arizonan. He was born on Camelback Mountain and raised in the Verde Valley. He is a graduate of Mingus Union High School and now resides in Clarkdale. He and his lady, Sashea, celebrated the birth of their first child, Olive Karismasophis, on March 23.
Omar has been the Chef de Cuisine at the Verde Valley Wine Company's Recovery
Room Restaurant. On Nov. 18, 2008, Omar was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid
Leukemia. Omar is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Although his medical expenses are mostly being met, he is unable to work and day-to-day living expenses have not stopped. A benefit has been organized to generate financial help.
The party is scheduled for April 4 at Paul & Jerry's Saloon in Jerome and will start at 2 p.m.
Local performers Michael Steele, Dave Rentz, Noel Fray, Kim Talbot and Mark Ruby have offered their services. Special guest Dale Deratany, original owner of Musical Arts and long time Cottonwood resident, is driving in from his home in New Mexico to perform. Many Verde Valley musicians will remember Dale and his contribution to the music scene over the years.
Local merchants and artists are also participating by donating items to be offered in a raffle and/or silent auctions. To date, donations have been offered by Patrick Lincoln,
