Ky. crash kills Camp Verde man
SMITHLAND, Ky. -- A Camp Verde man died in a head-on crash in Kentucky on Thursday.
Trevor Wayne Hammond, 22, a 2005 graduate of Camp Verde High School, died when the van he was driving collided with a school bus. The incident occurred on U.S. 60 near Smithland around 2:30 in the afternoon.
According to Kentucky State Police, Hammond was driving east in a van also carrying his fiancÃ©e Heather Jo Travis, 21, and 1-year-old Colton Lawless when he crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the bus, driven by Denise Kazumba, 40.
Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene. Travis was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital. Colton was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Kazumba and her two young passengers reportedly suffered no injuries.
Hammond was apparently in Kentucky visiting Travis' family.
