Wildfire ignited by lightning
A lightning-caused fire is burning in the Coconino Forest east of Sedona. The Rattle Ridge fire is burning approximately 3 miles northwest of Stoneman Lake, east of Interstate 17.
Smoke can be seen from the northbound lanes of I-17. A forest spokeswoman, Brienne Magee, says the fire is burning in the under story of ponderosa pine vegetation, mostly grass and brush fuels. The size was initially small and most fuels are still damp from the frequent rains.
The fire is monitored for resource benefit and is likely to burn naturally. No significant property or threats have been determined. Two fire engines with approximately 11 firefighters are currently on the scene.
