Letter: Ol’ George isn’t looking quite so inept now

STRATFOR Global Intelligence reports that our president is viewed as weak and indecisive by allies and enemies alike. Now, after months of reviewing his own strategy that was implemented last March, he has decided he doesn’t like any of the options his “war council” has put forward.

Obama now wants “clarification” as to “how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government...” In other words, “How do we cut and run?” It’s fairly obvious that there is no viable Afghan government to which we can turn anything over.

This is the war that Mr. Obama said he could handle better than George Bush -- the real war we should have been fighting. By comparison, ol’ George isn’t looking quite so inept now. This isn’t Chicago politics where you simply bribe someone to get what you want.

Terrorists will take your money and still cut your throat. We can’t, in good conscience, keep sending our young men and women into harm’s way while the president waffles. The longer he takes to make a decision, the longer it will take to implement whatever the decision is, and the more soldiers will die in the interim.

With variations, there are only two choices. We’re either all in or we’re all out. Either commit the resources to give our troops what they need for a positive outcome or pull them out.

It’s not a decision that should hinge on how your political base will react. We have to start wondering “Is he up to the job?” Apparently, the rest of the world has already come to a decision about that.
