Elderly Christmas Gift Program

The Elderly Christmas Gift Program began five years ago as a way to ensure older people living alone were not forgotten during the holiday season. The program is asking you to help out by donating gifts appropriate to the elderly and their needs.

Here’s what the Elderly Christmas Gift Program needs in way of donations: Primary gifts, wrapped - lap blankets, warm shawls, towels, hand towels, wash cloth sets or a $20 gift certificate for a local grocery store. Please put tag or label stating what’s inside and whether it’s for a man or woman; Secondary Gifts, unwrapped - non-drying shampoo or conditioner, body soap, bar soap, toothpaste and tooth brushes, body lotions, hair brush and comb sets, denture cleaners (Efferdent and Polident), box of Kleenex or handkerchiefs, pull on, or soft-warm slippers – one size fits all.

Put your gifts in brown paper grocery bag and drop it off before Dec. 9 at The Pet Kingdom in the Fry’s Shopping Center in Cottonwood. For Sedona locations, call (928) 282-1524.

Open House & Food Drive

Chic Hair Salon in Sedona is holding a holiday open house from 6 to 8 p.m. to show appreciation for clients and to welcome new ones. They are also kicking off their Holiday Food Drive for the Sedona Food Bank. For information call (928) 282-2475.

Moose Lodge Annual Holiday Dinner

Dec. 6

The Verde Valley Moose Lodge in honoring all Senior Citizens of the Verde Valley with a free holiday dinner. Seating begins at noon. This 30-year tradition is a gift to Senior Citizens and will include a full turkey and ham holiday dinner, including pumpkin pie furnished by the Women of the Moose. Shut-in delivery of the holiday meal will be provided by Meals On Wheels. Note: There will be no Dec. 4 Fish Fry in order to prepare for the dinner. Who will be Mr. Marauder?

Mingus Union High School is hosting a fund-raiser pageant that will pit seven senior guys against each other in the battle for the crown and title of Mr. Marauder. The fun starts at 7 p.m. in the Mingus Auditorium. Admission will be $2, and all the money raised go to help Kade Backus and his family.

2010 Verde Valley calendars

Remaining 2010 Verde Historical Society Calendars, featuring Verde Valley nonprofit organizations, have been reduced to only $5. They make great stocking stuffers and reasonably priced gifts, while proceeds assist the Clemenceau Heritage Museum in preserving and showcasing our local history at no cost to the public.

Each month features a different organization with photos and a description of its activities. Included are the Lions and Rotary Clubs, the Old Town Mission, the Humane Society, Caballos del Sol, Boys and Girls Club, El Valle Artists, the 4-H and the FFA, and the Old Town Association, among others.

The calendars are available at the Museum during regular hours: 11 – 3 Fridays – Sundays, and 9 – noon Wednesdays. The Museum is located on the corner of Willard and Mingus in Cottonwood. Tel: 928-634-2868.

Santa at Emmanuel Fellowship

 Emmanuel Fellowship will present Breakfast with Santa and Friends. All children and parents are invited to join Santa and his friends for breakfast. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, eggs and juice/coffee. $5 per person, age 2 and under eat free. Also get your picture taken with Santa for only $5 per photo (includes two 5x7 prints). Tickets are available now for three time slots 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. Get your tickets early. Seats are limited. Free online class for budding writers

Author of 19 books and renowned writing coach Tom Bird, of Sedona, offer a free online course on December 9, from 5- 6:30 MST for aspiring authors entitled “Is There A Book Inside Of You And, If So, How To Birth It In As Little As 4 Days.”
