Letter: Socialism a parasite
Once again I am amused by the most recent quasi-socialist opinion of John Bond in his Letter to the Editor (Verde Independent 8-28-09).
When Social Security was implemented, there was one beneficiary for every 143 who paid into it. Today there is one beneficiary for every 3 who pay into it. Its existence in current form is likely unsustainable. That is also the case with all big, bloated, taxpayer funded government programs. Government-run health care systems in many countries are frank testimony to government's ineptitude.
Socialism is a parasite of society's production. It only takes and consumes and by its very nature does not produce. The administration in Washington appears to be wearing economic blinders. The spending path they are on will not have a good ending.
