American Soldiers Say 'Don't Tear Me Down'
Soldiers who had just returned from Iraq, Caravan ed across the country to help save "Mojave Desert Memorial." A little cross on a hill near Kelsi, California that was placed there in 1934 by Riley Bembrey a WWI Veteran to honor all Veterans. There are those who wish to see it removed. These young men have traveled from Fort Polk, La., stopping along the way at Veteran Memorials. Flag Pole Hill (White Rock Lake) near Dallas, Texas. The Buffalo Soldier Memorial at (Fort Huachuca) near Sierra Vista. Taking time out to help construct the Dignity Vietnam Wall at the Phoenix Memorial Park. They were escorted by the American Legion Riders and Riders USA. They arrived at the War Memorial at the McGuireville Rest Area along I-17 between Camp Verde and Flagstaff and was joined by Jim Edmon, Founder of the Memorial and the naming of I-17 the Veterans Highway. The Verde Valley American Legion Riders Post 25 & Post 93 were on hand to thank them for their Service to our County and helping to save the War Memorials. They were escorted on their journey to Flagstaff, Laughlin and for the ceremony in Kelsi on Thursday Sept. 17 where they will lay a Wreath, Read names of Fallen Soldiers, Reading of Patriotism and Observe a Moment of Silence for all Veterans. Their final journey will be back to Fort Polk.
