Apply for Cottonwood Head Start

Cottonwood Head Start & Early Head Start is currently accepting applications for the 1010-11 school year. Head Start is a federally funded program for income eligible infants form six weeks to one year of age and for children from 3 to 5 years of age. Join the Geology Hike

Jan. 9

Join a volunteer on a guided geology hike through Red Rock State Park on the second Sunday at 2 p.m. You will learn why the rocks are red, where they came from, where they are going, and more. This hike includes the Eagle’s Nest Trail for a great view of the Park and surrounding area. More than a guided hike, this is an interpretive experience for the beginner as well as advanced geologist. The hike lasts for 2 to 2.5 hours and has a 250 feet elevation climb. Enjoy an afternoon with our knowledgeable volunteer guide who will explain the rock formations that create the scenic backdrop of Red Rock State Park. Bring water and wear suitable shoes or boots.

Sedona seeking Board of Adjustment members

The City of Sedona is accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Board of Adjustment. The term of service for this voluntary position is from time of appointment through 2012.

The Board of Adjustment conducts hearings regarding requests for variances from the Sedona Land Development Code applicable to zoning regulations and hears appeals regarding interpretations made by the zoning administrator.

Application packets are available from the City Clerk ‘s office at Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive, or by calling 282-3113. Return completed applications to the City Clerk’s office, City of Sedona, 102 Roadrunner Drive, Sedona AZ 86336. The deadline to return applications is Monday, Jan.10, 2011, at 5 p.m.

Alzheimer’s Caregivers Meeting

Caregivers of Alzheimer’s Disease patients are invited to participate in an Alzheimer’s Association Support Group which meets at the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church, every Wednesday morning. The Mission Committee of the church chose this project as a way of offering service to the community. Mission Committee members who serve as Facilitators of the group have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Association. Confidentiality is an essential part of the process as Caregivers are given the opportunity to share their concerns and their experiences of caring for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Caregivers Support Group meets at VV Presbyterian Church, 1500 E. Hombre Drive, on Wednesdays 10-11:30 a.m. For more information, and for registration to participate, please call either Fran at (928) 634-6495, or Diane at 634-8034.

Card games at the Clemenceau

The Clemenceau Museum will again be hosting card games on Friday as part of its series on games of yesteryear. Canasta, one of the most popular card game of the 1950s and ‘60s, will be one of the featured games. All aficionados, as well as those who would like to learn, are invited to come over to the museum and participate. Bring friends and make some new friends, spend an hour or several hours.

Game time goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Clemenceau Heritage Museum, corner of Willard and Mingus in Cottonwood. Admission is free, donations welcome. Call 634-2868 or visit www.ClemenceauMuseum.org on the web.
