Rollover on Cornville switchbacks
CORNVILLE - Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Verde Valley Fire crews were dispatched to a multi-vehicle accident including a rollover on the switchbacks of Cornville Road blocking traffic.
Crews found a single, small pick-up truck that had rolled over, sitting upside down, blocking the roadway. They say that it appeared the accident was caused by a medical condition the driver experienced. Before the rollover, the truck sideswiped one vehicle, hit a second from the rear, continued down the switchbacks and eventually hit the embankment and rolled.
Incident Commander Dustin Chambliss reported the driver was initially unconscious, and extrication was begun. They called in more rescue crews to help assess other possible accident victims and traffic control. During the extrication process the man became conscious and was taken to Verde Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
The driver had been wearing a seatbelt, and primary assessment of injuries due to the accident appeared to be non-life-threatening. No other injuries were reported from the other vehicles that had been hit. The scene was turned over to Yavapai County Sheriff's Office for investigation.
