Letter: Your generosity on behalf of the elderly was incredible
The generosity of the local organizations and individuals of the Verde Valley community is incredible. The call for Christmas Angels to give gifts to the elderly went out and was heard and responded to by many.
I am honored to live in a community with such heart and compassion. This year over 3,000 items filled 600 bags that were delivered to very grateful individuals, many of whom would not have had a gift under their tree otherwise.
Thank you to everyone who provided the gifts or cash to purchase the gifts. Great appreciation goes to the many who showed up to help with the wrapping, sorting, bagging and delivering, blessings to you for your assistance, it could not have happened without you. Each and every one of you know who you are and I hope know how much it meant to me as well as those who received to have your support in whatever way you chose to provide it. Words seem inadequate to express the enormous sense of gratitude I feel for the success of this year’s efforts.
The contents of the bags were simple and useful with items such as lap blankets or towel sets, slippers, socks, and toiletries, but ever so appreciated.
Special thanks goes to the Sedona Women’s Dames who contributed gifts, to Bashas’ for giving paper grocery bags, to New Frontiers for the gift certificates, to the Sedona Rotary Club, to Wal-Mart for a small gift certificate, to the Pet Kingdom and Metro Hair Care in Cottonwood for being drop off points, to Lon Walters for the use of his panel truck to deliver the gifts and to Shrader and Martinez Construction for providing a large office space to use as our angel workshop. Deep gratitude to local dentists Brant Oxford, George Moore, Don Gage and James Eagan, whose combined efforts provided enough toothbrushes for every recipient.
From this wealth of giving, gifts were distributed to the Meals on Wheels recipients in Cottonwood, the residents of the Verde Valley Manor and the Verde View Apartments in Camp Verde as well as the residents of Pine Creek Villas in VOC.
