December sales tax revenue mixed throughout Verde Valley
Cottonwood and Jerome up in retail and total categories
VERDE VALLEY -- Sales tax figures for December, according to the Arizona Department of Revenue, were mixed throughout the Verde Valley. Cottonwood and Jerome were up in retail, total collections and year-to-date categories. Sedona saw a decent bump in its retail tax revenue. But Camp Verde and Clarkdale were down in all three categories.
Cottonwood collected $588,971 in retail sales tax for December, an increase over $581,461 for the same month last year. Total sales tax collections also were up for December from $922,264 in 2008 to $937,672 in 2009. Year-to-date sales tax revenue was up to $5,271,267 for 2009 from $4,736,179 last year.
Camp Verde's retail sales tax collections dropped to $46,114 in December from $66,505 last year. Total sales tax revenue also dropped for December from $200,343 last year to $134,524 this year. Year-to-date sales tax through December was down to $1,044,029 from $1,169,574 last year.
Clarkdale's retail sales tax dropped a little from $2,795 in December 2008 to $2,692 in 2009. It was the total sales tax category that took a big hit for Clarkdale, dropping from $77,899 in December 2008 to $46,046 for 2009. Year-to-date sales tax revenue dropped steeply from $444,042 through December 2008 to $296,906 for the same period in 2009.
Although the increase isn't big, Jerome collected $16,652 in retail tax for December 2009 compared with $15,384 in 2008. Total sales tax revenue also climbed from $38,819 in December 2008 to $43,489 in 2009. Year-to-date sales tax went up to $248,940 through December 2009 from $241,813 for the same period in 2008.
Sedona saw its December retail sales tax revenue increase to $246,135 from $235,437 in 2008. Total sales tax dropped from $963,540 in December 2008 to $851,434 for December 2009. Year-to-date sales tax revenue through December 2009 was $6,080,824, a drop from $7,117,758 for the same period last year.
