Register by Aug. 20 for V-Bar-V’s Ranch Explorers Day, hosted annually by the University of Arizona Agricultural Experiment Station.

Spend a day on the V Bar V Ranch, learn about ranching in the southwest, and enjoy a V Bar V Ranch beef barbecue lunch with fresh-from-the-coals Dutch oven cobbler for dessert.

Ranch Explorers Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28. The event is held annually by the University of Arizona V Bar V Ranch Agricultural Experiment Station at Mahan Park, a meadow in the pines on the east end of the Ranch near Happy Jack, Arizona. Bus transportation is provided from Prescott, Dewey, and Camp Verde.

This year, ranch personnel will present a program comparing Grain-Fed vs. Grass-Fed beef, including taste testing. Ranch activities, including Range Evaluation and Management, Back Country Horse Use and Ethics, and Chuck Wagon Cooking, will be demonstrated. A variety of range plants will be on display. And there will be opportunities to take a guided plant walk, pet farm animals, play ranch games and ride on a hay wagon.

Cost to attend Ranch Explorers Day is $30 for adults and $15 for students, and includes lunch and the bus ride. Participants may also drive to the site.

To register or for more information call the V Bar V Ranch office in Rimrock at (928) 567-6954, ext. 12, or visit http://ag.arizona.edu/aes/vbarv/ranchexplorersday.html. Registration deadline is Aug. 20.
