Lois Beatrice Chapman 1912 - 2010

Lois Beatrice Chapman died July 1, 2010 at the age of 98 with her loving caretakers from Gracious Granny’s Assisted Living in attendance.

Lois was born April 10, 1912 in Oklahoma the second of six children of Homer Lee McDaniel and Mattie Arlena McDaniel. When Lois was a child the family relocated to New Mexico where her dad homesteaded.

In 1940 as a young woman Lois moved to Flagstaff where she lived and worked for the next 25 years. During that time she married Happy Chapman. Together they owned and operated Chapman’s Market in East Flagstaff.

Retirement came in the early 1960’s with a move to Cornville, AZ where they resided for many years. Their next move was to Cottonwood Village and Lois’ final year was spent at Gracious Granny’s Assisted Living.

Lois was always active and outgoing. She and Happy spent many years involved in square dancing all around the state. Lois sewed matching clothing for them to dance in including her beautiful full squaw skirts. She also used her creative talents to play the organ and make wonderful wood carvings of animals and birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 50 years, Happy; an infant daughter, Beatrice; her only sister and two brothers.

Lois is survived by her brothers Snooke McDaniel of Carrizozo, NM, H.D. McDaniel of Titusville, FL; step children Jane Marks (Norm) of Cottonwood and Jim Chapman (Carol) of Palisade, CO. She is also survived by numerous step grandchildren and nieces and nephews including nieces Nancy (George) Cronin of Belen, NM and Karen Hopkins of Cottonwood, AZ.

There will be a celebration of life at Gracious Granny’s Assisted Living, 1420 Bates Road, Cottonwood, AZ on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 4 p.m.
