Camp Verde sweet corn season opens
CAMP VERDE - The summer sweet corn season began Sunday morning at Hauser's corn stand on Montezuma Castle.
"It was a last-minute decision, but we will open Sunday morning," Claudia Hauser said.
The price of a dozen ears of the sweet Ambrosia white and yellow corn will be $5 a dozen, same as last year.
"We expect to have a steady supply from here on," Hauser said. "If there is anything different from last year it's that we may have a shorter growing season."
According to Kevin Hauser, the corn made a fairly quick recovery after getting a slow start due to the colder temperatures in May and early June.
"We planted a few less acres this year to make room for carrots," he said.
Hauser's has teamed with Miedema Produce of Waddell, Ariz., this year to plant several acres of carrots, which is why the fields seen from Montezuma Castle Highway are covered in sprinklers.
The corn stand will open at 8 a.m.
