Letter: Central Arizona Food Bank thanks you

I would like to express our deep appreciation for the community support and the overwhelming response to the needs of all residents in this valley that we serve, at this most critical time, not only in our county but state wide as well.

Through all your support and most of all the volunteers involved here at Central Arizona Food Bank and all the other food distribution agencies we supported in this valley, 2009 was a very busy year.

Our Emergency Food Pantry, with our volunteer help, served 5,586 clients and supplied 225,350 pounds of food. Thanks to all the businesses and individuals who held food drives for us including the Postal Service Drive. Special thanks go to those that gave a sack of non-perishables and for those that collected them for us. We could not have done this alone.

With our special boxes clients order each month, we were able to provide more than 5,000 boxes of food. Thanks to the volunteers including families with children and Charter School children for all their help in preparing these boxes plus the help we get from the Fire Department on delivery day. A big thanks goes to those who help deliver these boxes on the second Thursday of the month.

Our participation in the Back-Pack Program has been through the inspiration of several school officials as to the need in sending food supplies home with children on the weekends.

Our special boxes for seniors the first two weeks of the month are administered to by our volunteers. We have participated in this program for more than 30 years. Clients have received 4,785 boxes including those delivered in Camp Verde.

Our volunteer drivers logged in more than 32,000 miles picking up food and delivering around the county and beyond.

We have also received funds from our local Salvation Army to administer to folks with specific needs, aiding our community residents in difficult circumstances and we feel humble to participate with our all volunteer staff in theses programs.

We also participate with the Verde Valley Diaper Bank, with their volunteer staff, in providing a very worthy service for so many in need. We feel honored to work with them.

We feel blessed to be part of this community. Thank you for all your support which in turn encourages us. Without you and all of our volunteers, this task could not be accomplished. We look forward to meet the challenge this 2010.
