Gunther Herman (Bill) Stoffers, 86, of Cottonwood died Sunday, March 21 at his home.

He was born February 4, 1924 in Bruckhausen, Germany, the son of Henry and Wilhelmina Stoffers.

He served his country during World War II as a paratrooper in the Army’s 17th Airborne that jumped into Germany.

Mr. Stoffers worked in all phases of underground mining in Bagdad, Arizona. He was mining superintendent at mines in Tucson, Creste Butte, Colorado, and Bagdad.

He became owner and operator of Stoffers Mining Company operating mines near Dragoon and Chloride and then worked as a federal mine safety instructor for ten years, retiring in 1999.

He then became a full time RV-er traveling across the United States.

His wife of 40 years, Ruth Stoffers preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of ten years, Jayne(Sandy) Stoffers; son Bill Stoffers (Robin) of Peoria; daughter Cathy Kibel of Dove Creek, Colorado; step-son Clay Stilson of Phoenix; stepdaughters Sandy Kingston and Becca Jones, both of Yarnell; brother Henry Stoffers (Mary) of Phoenix; a cousin Willie Stoffers of Sedona; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held.
