COTTONWOOD - "Jump Into Spring!" That was the theme for the 16th annual Cottonwood Public Library Volunteer Luncheon. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month. On April 18, the library staff honored their volunteers with a luncheon at the new Cottonwood Recreation Center with food provided by Jerona Java Cafe and Gifts.

Approximately 75 people attended the gala, including staff, volunteers, library board members, and the Friends of the library group, the Cottonwood Bookmarks. It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a city full of giving volunteers to run a library. In all, there are 116 people who volunteer at the library.

Without volunteers such as Gail, the library would be hard-pressed to make it through a week, let alone an entire year.

The library also issues Volunteer Service Awards at the annual luncheon. This year twelve volunteers received their 1-year award, five received 5-year awards, and two received their 10-year awards.

Agnes Blackford, Jay Fleishman and Judy Paulus received their 15-year awards. Bill Moeny received his 20-year award, and Dede Ewald received her 30-year award. Betsy Johnston received an award for 40 years of library volunteer service.

The Cottonwood Public Library would also like to thank the following sponsors for their donations: Cottonwood Cinema, Blazin' M Ranch, Verde Canyon Railroad, Phoenix Zoo, Out of Africa, Mai Thai on Main Restaurant, Desert Botanical Gardens, Cliff Castle Casino, Harrah's Laughlin Casino, La Bella Café, Hog Wild, Community Tire, Wal-Mart, Bobbie Gooslin, Judy Stallings, Andrea Phyfer, Dede Ewald, UniqPresence, Tae Kwon Do Unlimited, Cottonwood Bookmarks, Cottonwood Public Library Board, Cottonwood Fire Department, and Cottonwood Police Department.
