Wayne M. Chapman 1925 - 2010

Wayne M. Chapman, 84, of Cottonwood, Arizona, formerly of Prosperity, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, following a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1925, in Buffalo Village, a son of J. Reed and Margaret E. Marquis Chapman.

During World War II, he served in the Navy from October 5, 1943, until his honorable discharge on April 7, 1946, with a rank of Radioman, third class. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three battle stars, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Bar, and Occupation Medal with Asia Clasp.

Mr. Chapman owned and operated the general store in Prosperity for 20 years. He also was a truck driver for Chapman Corporation for 10 years.

He was a member of Washington Lodge F&AM 623, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple AAONMS – Horse Patrol, and a former member of Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Chapman was a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed leather crafts.

He was a former member of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church in Prosperity.

On January 22, 1949, he married Edith McVay, who died September 1, 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Marc Wayne (Cathy) Chapman of Virginia and Jeffrey Reed (Joan) Chapman of Washington; his long-time companion, Edna Simpson; two brothers, Robert Chapman of Reno, Nevada, and James Chapman of Washington; three grandchildren, Jodie Main, Callie Mezyk and Erin Chapman; and two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Miley Main.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Cindy Lou Chapman; and a sister, Elizabeth Longdon.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19th. Burial followed at Prosperity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to National World War II Memorial, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Suite 501 Arlington, VA 22201; or to American Cancer Society, 331 S. Main St., Washington PA 15301.
