Fresh produce, entertainment at Sedona Farmer's Market
The Sedona Community Farmers Market is located at the Sedona Airport in the parking lot by the overlook. The market begins its Summer Season on Friday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will be open weekly until Oct. 1. This year the market will also be open weekly on Sundays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. starting July 4 through Sept. 19. Sedona residents and visitors alike are invited to meet local food growers, producers, backyard gardeners and artisans. Offerings include freshly farmed fruits and vegetables, herbs, fresh cut flowers, goat milk, eggs, pecans, fresh breads, gluten free, pecans, tamales, honey, grass fed beef, artisan foods like marmalades, salsas, sauces, falafel and hummus. Other locally produced items include handcrafted emu oil, olive oil, soaps, body products, plants, seeds, soil regeneration products, worm castings. Each week local musicians will be featured.
"The market aims to support local sustainable agricultural activity and increase the supply of locally grown food. Local food is not only fresher, it also preserves genetic diversity, promotes energy conservation, supports local farm families, builds community, preserves open space, supports a clean environment and benefits wildlife, " says founding director Katrin Themlitz.
The Sedona Community Farmers Market features over 35 vendors, made up of 70 percent agricultural harvest, 25 percent prepared food items, 3 percent crafts and 2 percent nonprofit organizations. The market is WIC certified. This year the market is the only market in the Verde Valley to offer processing SNAP/Food Stamps.
